AI Enhanced Vision Systems for improving detection efficiency in high volume and high value products
DETECT aims to create a plug-in, easy to configure AI driven solution, including both the hardware and the software, allowing the detection of defects and the measurements of object’s dimensions in 2D and 3D space.
About
DETECT project is an initiative led by a consortium of partners, each contributing distinct expertise and aims to boost manufacturing sustainability. Our main goals are:
- Enhance Manufacturing Sustainability
- Utilize Cutting-Edge Technological Hardware & Software
- Early Defect Detection
- Enhance Production Modularity & Scalability

Objectives

Utilize cutting-edge technology
With the rise of Industry 4.0, vision systems play a pivotal role in manufacturing. DETECT will utilize cutting-edge technology such as
cameras, sensors and machine learning algorithms to capture and analyze visual data, enabling real-time monitoring, quality control and optimization of manufacturing operations. Integrating such systems provides the ability to detect and prevent defects early in the production line, as high-resolution hardware will be combined with sophisticated image processing algorithms to identify even the tiniest imperfections in products, components, or raw materials.
Early detection of defects not only ensures that only high-quality items proceed to the next stage, but it also minimizes the need for
rework, reducing material waste, conserving resources and energy while allowing the production of higher quality end products,
minimizing the environmental impact associated with production processes.

Enable precise measurements and dimensional accuracy
Moreover, the DETECT vision system will enable precise measurements and dimensional accuracy during manufacturing processes. It can measure critical dimensions, tolerances, alignments as well as alphanumeric characters with exceptional precision, ensuring compliance with the initial design and allowing real-time adaptation of machines to compensate for any detected deviations.
A key selling point of the system is the fact that the DETECT solution will incorporate its AI induced ability, to perform assessments that can capture subjective aspects i.e. evaluate conditions that today only human operators can through using their senses.

Support designing and re-designing of the product and the supply chain
Apart from the sustainability benefits contributing to decarbonization of manufacturing industries in compliance with the Green Deal strategy, DETECT solution will also provide valuable data to support designing and re-designing of the product itself as well as the supply chain, enabling the reduction of manufacturing defects and increased reusability. This will be wrapped around a modular system able to support a variety of hardware depending of the needs of the end user, while being easy to be configured/reconfigured in short time, eliminating the need to involve vision or programming experts.
Additionally, DETECT solution will integrate the proposed AI system in the traceability
process. The enhanced vision system will be able to be connected to the customers ERP systems (e.g. SAP, window, android) allowing in this way an increased degree of automation and data accuracy.
